- Why does DEF need a stainless or poly tank?
- Diesel exhaust fluid is a urea solution that corrodes aluminum, carbon steel, copper, and brass. Tanks, pumps, and fittings that touch DEF are stainless steel or plastics such as polyethylene. A fuel tank cannot simply be switched over to DEF.
- Does DEF freeze in a delivery truck?
- DEF freezes at about 12 degrees Fahrenheit. Trucks that deliver in cold climates carry heated or insulated tanks and lines so the product stays liquid, and DEF that has frozen and thawed is still usable.
